Promotional Prep Team

We have assembled a staff of fire officers with extensive backgrounds in the educational and promotional fields dedicated to our profession. With resumes that include experiences as NJ DOP subject matter experts, authors, consultants, teachers, and most recently #1 candidates on their promotional exams.  The staff assembled for our entrance and promotional workshops will present the most effective and goal oriented programs available.


Deputy Chief Michael Terpak, Ret.

Michael Terpak is a nationally recognized fire service authority with over 40 years of fire service experience and the founder of Promotional Prep, a New Jersey based consulting firm specialized in test preparation for all levels of fire service testing.  After serving 36 years with the Jersey City Fire Department Mike recently retired as Deputy Chief and City Wide Tour Commander.  Chief Terpak travels extensively around the country lecturing on testing and fire/rescue topics.  He has an extensive background in testing development and administration and has served as a subject matter expert for testing and appointing agencies.  Chief Terpak, holds a BS degree in Fire Safety Administration from the City University of NJ and is the author of  “Fire Ground Size-Up” , “Assessment Center Strategy and Tactics”,  “Fire Ground Operational Guides” and “Assessment Center Management and Supervision.”


Chief Frank Montagne, Ret.

Frank Montagne has 39 years dedicated to the fire service. He is regarded as “The Authority” on fire service testing having scored #1 on every promotional exam he has ever taken.  Frank Montagne recently retired as the Chief of the Department for North Hudson Regional Fire & Rescue where he served 10 years as Deputy Chief and 10 years as Chief of Department.  Chief Montagne started his career with the North Bergen Fire Department before the department regionalized in 1999. Chief Montagne is the co-author of  “Assessment Center Management and Supervision” and “Fire Officer Oral Assessment Study Guides.”


Deputy Chief Alider Pratts

Alider Pratts is a veteran of the US Marine Corps, has served North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue (NJ) since 2004, and has quickly risen through the ranks by scoring at the top of each of his promotional lists.  Pratts became a Captain in 2010, where he worked in the department’s busiest companies including Squad 1 and Ladder Tower 3 in West New York, NJ.  He became a Battalion Chief in 2017, where he covered all three battalions as the Third Platoon’s rotating BC, before being promoted to Deputy Chief in 2022.  He is North Hudson’s Chief of Special Operations Command, as well as the department’s Training Division Chief.  DC Pratts serves as a member of the UASI-Metro USAR Command Staff and is the NJDFS Subject Matter Expert in Fire Service Active Shooter Response.  As an Active Shooter Response SME, he maintains leadership roles in local, county, and state interdisciplinary committees.  DC Pratts is a NJ Certified Level 2 Fire Instructor, teaches at the Monmouth County Fire Academy and Kean University’s Fire Safety Program, and has written articles published in “Fire Engineering Magazine”.
